The splendid results of their teamwork across all business lines has contributed greatly to the growth and success of Atlas Copco over this period.โ

The 67-strong PPS teamโs holistic approach and ability to go the extra mile has contributed greatly to achieving impressive results. According to PPS Managing Director, Ian Harrison: โWe were 42% above our annual target on the number of Atlas Copco units sold, and, in terms of order value, we returned a healthy 39% over budget. It was PPS that sold the very first Atlas Copco NGM series nitrogen generator unit in the UK. The sales team were also winners of internal sales promotion competitions for industrial gases projects as well as refrigerant dryer equipment. A strong investment in their digital presence and the use of networking and community relations are also contributing factors to PPSโs success.

The company prides itself in being a people-centric business; an approach clearly demonstrated by schemes such as its on-going, inclusive business development training programmes, both for staff and customers. There have been individual personal achievements too with its apprentice, Leland Heslop, winning apprentice of the year at the Calderdale Excellence in Business Awards 2019. As PPS Managing Director, Ian Harrison observes: โTeamwork is our watchword. A can-do attitude dedicated to delivering the very best in customer service. We have an overriding mission to enable our customers to benefit from the potential energy efficiency savings that can be achieved with the right choice of equipment and systems. The Atlas Copco brand, its products and support helps us in this endeavour and encourages our drive to win business.โ

compressor.sales@uk.atlascopco.com | www.atlascopco.co.uk/compressors
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:36:"http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/";a:1:{s:10:"commentRss";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:149:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/24/pennine-pneumatic-services-wins-atlas-copco-compressors-2019-distributor-of-the-year-award/feed/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:38:"http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/";a:1:{s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:1:"0";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:3;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:66:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:3:{s:0:"";a:6:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:68:"Plant & Asset Management exhibition rescheduled for January 2021";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:116:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/23/plant-asset-management-exhibition-rescheduled-for-january-2021/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Mon, 23 Mar 2020 12:59:36 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:7:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:11:"Coronavirus";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:10:"exhibition";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:9:"MACH 2020";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:4;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:14:"NEC Birmingham";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:5;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:9:"PAAM 2020";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:6;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:29:"Plant & Asset Management 2020";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4332";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:387:"DFA Media, the organiser of the Plant & Asset Management show, has released the following statement: DFA Media, organiser of Drives & Controls Exhibition and co-located shows, has been actively monitoring and following advice regarding the Coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19) over the past weeks. It has been decided that Drives & Controls Exhibition and its co-located events will be postponed and rescheduled for 25th-27th January 2021, which will take place alongside MACH Exhibition. The co-location of events include:

Drives & Controls
Fluid Power & Systems
Air-Tech
Plant & Asset Management
Smart Industry Expo

We have been following UK Government guidelines and working with the rolling advice from the public health authorities and other organisations, but the effects, actual and projected, of Coronavirus are becoming increasingly evident across all aspects of our lives both here in the UK and across the globe. As a responsible events organiser, ensuring the health and wellbeing of all our exhibitors, contractors and visitors (many of whom face travel restrictions) has to be our top priority and it is therefore with reluctance that we have taken the decision to postpone the event until January.

By working closely with our venue partners, THE NEC, we have been able to secure rescheduled dates for these events in January, alongside MACH. Current modelling projections suggest that the virus will peak in May/ June and decline thereafter during the following months allowing our exhibitors the opportunity to present their technologies, innovations and solutions in an upturning market with no restrictions on travel.

The rescheduled date provides clarity and ensures we have time and space to deliver the same high-quality event we promised, providing a safe and secure environment conducive to business, networking and career development for the manufacturing sector that we serve.

Thank you for your continued support during this unprecedented period and we look forward to working with all our partners to deliver a safe and successful event in January.

Ian Atkinson
Event Director
DFA Media Ltd
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:4;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:70:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:5:{s:0:"";a:7:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:34:"Identify cables three times faster";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:88:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/19/identify-cables-three-times-faster/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:96:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/19/identify-cables-three-times-faster/#respond";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Thu, 19 Mar 2020 16:33:22 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:4:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:24:"Company and Product News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:5:"Brady";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:11:"Cable flags";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:6:"cables";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4329";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:391:"Experienced operators can print and manually apply a flag label on a cable in 15 seconds. It can save quite a lot of money by identifying cables in 5 seconds and by eliminating the need to print labels in advance and the time needed to apply them by hand. The BradyPrinter A5500 enables 300 dpi prints for barcodes, logos and diagrams, and applies reliable cable flags that can communicate a lot of information.

A wide range of cables

The BradyPrinter A5500 is very flexible and, without any adjustment, can identify cables with 1.52 mm up to 15.24 mm in diameter and apply labels with widths up to 50.8 mm and lengths between 19.05 mm and 76.20 mm. Its full colour touch screen and modern user interface further further enhance the printer’s flexibility and ease of use.

Easy to implement

USB-ports and ethernet connectivity make the BradyPrinter A5500 practical to implement in a variety of production environments. Coupled with Brady Workstation apps for easy flag label design, barcoding and serialisation, the BradyPrinter A5500 becomes a highly practical process efficiency increaser.

Calculate your return on investment on the Brady website or receive more information via emea_request@bradycorp.com.
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:36:"http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/";a:1:{s:10:"commentRss";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:93:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/19/identify-cables-three-times-faster/feed/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:38:"http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/";a:1:{s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:1:"0";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:5;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:73:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:5:{s:0:"";a:7:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"Asset Performance 4.0 rescheduled due to COVID-19";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:103:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/19/asset-performance-4-0-rescheduled-due-to-covid-19/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:111:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/19/asset-performance-4-0-rescheduled-due-to-covid-19/#respond";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Thu, 19 Mar 2020 16:24:11 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:5:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:7:"Antwerp";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:20:"AssetPerformance 4.0";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:5:"BEMAS";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:4;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:10:"exhibition";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4326";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:383:"In the context of the international outbreak and spread of COVID-19, BEMAS is closely following developments, taking into account the advice and recommendations of the World Health Organisation and local authorities. The Research and Development credit will be increased from 12 to 13% โ this will be worth ยฃ2,400 on a typical R&D claim, fulfilling a manifesto commitment, the chancellor said. He announced that the government would more than doubling investment in R&D to ยฃ22bn a year, starting with an increase of 15% next year.

He announced plans to invest at least ยฃ800m in a new research funding agency modelled on ARPA in the US, and also pledged to spread more R&D funding around the country โ at present 50% goes to London and the East and South East of England.

There will also be a ยฃ28m package and up to 10,000 start-up loans to support entrepreneurs and businesses to start

Environmental measures will include introducing carbon capture and storage at two sites, to capture carbon dioxide emissions before it is released into the atmosphere.

Make UK chief executive Stephen Phipson said: โBusiness understands that dealing with the impact of the coronavirus on individuals and the economy was always going to be the chancellorโs priority and he has our full support in doing whatever is necessary to protect the public and the economy.

โAside from the overwhelming immediate priority the chancellor has also recognised the need to turbocharge investment in long term through measures which will boost the productive potential of the economy and support green growth. In a world which is rapidly becoming digital the UK needs to stay at the forefront of research and innovation. Todayโs measures to boost R&D will be applauded by industry and will help the UK lead in the technologies of the future.โ

Dame Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director-General, said the chancellor had delivered โtwo Budgets in one: a first for national resilience today and a second for economic ambition tomorrow.โ

She added: โWhile the response to Covid19 is urgent, it is very good to see this Budgetโs focus on innovation and infrastructure. The Chancellor has listened to many calls from CBI members, with decisive action on vital long-term issues. The significant uplift in R&D funding, creation of a UK version of ARPA, a fundamental review of business rates and spending promises on infrastructure will all bring real benefits to people, business and communities.โ Tim Thomas, Make UK director of employment & skills policy, welcomed funding for further education. He said: โExtra capital funding for the entire FE college estate is both welcome and needed. With T-levels around the corner for manufacturers, funding for new capital equipment, which is often a block to greater technical training, cannot come too soon.โ
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:7;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:76:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:5:{s:0:"";a:7:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:52:"MACH and Hannover Messe postponed due to coronavirus";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:119:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/hannover-messe-postponed-and-logimat-cancelled-due-to-coronavirus/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:127:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/hannover-messe-postponed-and-logimat-cancelled-due-to-coronavirus/#respond";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Wed, 11 Mar 2020 11:58:08 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:6:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:11:"Coronavirus";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:10:"exhibition";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:14:"Hannover Messe";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:4;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:7:"Logimat";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:5;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:9:"Stuttgart";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4318";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:336:"MACH 2020 has followed Hannover Messe 2020 to become the latest industry trade fair to be postponed because of health fears over the Coronavirus. Hannover Messe 2020 is now planned to take place between 13-10 July, while MACH will become MACH 2021, running from 25-28 January next year at the NEC.

James Selka, chief executive of MACH organiser the MTA, said the decision was taken in the best interests of the industry and those who work in it. โWe believe that by moving MACH to January 2021 we are going to be able to offer a better experience for our visitors, and better value for our exhibitors, than by holding it in April under the conditions likely to be in place at that time.โ MACH was expected to attract over 30,000 visitors, many international.

All exhibitors that had booked for MACH in April will be offered the same stand space on the new dates and are being contacted by the MTA team.

Hannover Messe organiser Deutsche Messe said it made the decision to postpone its fair in close cooperation with the Hannover Region Health Authority, the Hannover Messe Exhibitors’ Council and partners the German Engineering Federation VDMA and German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association ZVEI.

It said the Hannover Region Health Authority had strongly recommended that Deutsche Messe follow the advice of the Robert Koch Institute on safeguarding health at major events. This called for fever measuring stations at all entrances and barring people from risk areas or those who have had contact with people from risk areas from the exhibition centre. It would have entailed a comprehensive evaluation of all trade fair participants โ from exhibitors and visitors to service providers, exhibit builders and catering companies.

The organiser continued: โDeutsche Messe is unable to implement the proposed measures. Their implementation would impair the staging of the event to such an extent that the event would not fulfil its purpose or would do so only with considerable restrictions for exhibitors and visitors.โ

Dr Jochen Kรถckler, chairman of the Deutsche Messe board of management, said: โWith the July date, we offer our exhibitors the earliest possible time slot to present their innovations to a global audience and to initiate business.โ He added: โIn view of the global economic challenges triggered by the coronavirus in the first half of the year, the new date offers great opportunities. Thus the world’s most important industrial trade fair can provide important impetus for the global economy at an early stage.โ

The decision was supported by the VDMA and ZVEI.

Earlier Logimat 2020, the intralogistics solutions and process management show due to be held this week in Stuttgart, was cancelled due to an official injunction.

No alternative date was available for Logimat, which as a result will not take place this year. The next LogiMAT will take place in Stuttgart from March 9 to 11, 2021.

https://www.machexhibition.com/#/

https://www.hannovermesse.de/en/

https://www.logimat-messe.de/en
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:36:"http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/";a:1:{s:10:"commentRss";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:124:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/hannover-messe-postponed-and-logimat-cancelled-due-to-coronavirus/feed/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:38:"http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/";a:1:{s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:1:"0";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:8;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:79:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:5:{s:0:"";a:7:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:70:"Call for national productivity targets to โlevel upโ manufacturing";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:118:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/call-for-national-productivity-targets-to-level-up-manufacturing/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:126:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/call-for-national-productivity-targets-to-level-up-manufacturing/#respond";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Wed, 11 Mar 2020 11:48:36 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:7:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:24:"Manuafcturing Commission";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:6:"policy";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:14:"Policy Connect";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:4;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:12:"productivity";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:5;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:6:"report";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:6;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:7:"targets";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4315";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:372:"The government should set a national productivity target for manufacturing growth in England and introduce a business support programme to encourage the uptake of industrial digital technologies (IDTs), a new report recommends. The council, comprising individuals from business, academia and wider society, was set up under the previous government. Its remit includes reviewing the impact of the governmentโs industrial strategy and its contribution to UK economic growth.

The report urges Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and regional bodies to be given the funding and tools needed to engage with businesses on shaping local policymaking.

A further recommendation is to maximise the return on the increasing research and development spending by mapping existing regional capabilities and seeking to create a long term innovation network, bringing together government agencies, Catapults, universities and businesses.

โAs we drive towards 2.4% of GDP and beyond, we must ensure that this is spent as wisely as possible to enable innovation and growth across the whole country,โ wrote Lord Bilimoria.

The document calls for the establishment of a nationally available business support programme to encourage the uptake of digital technology, particularly for small and medium companies, backed by investment in high speed broadband and 5G infrastructure.

Supply and demand in job opportunities and skills provision is currently mismatched, the report highlights, and urges a better process to match learner aspiration to business need.

An additional recommendation is that the planned UK Shared Prosperity Fund should provide a single, flexible resource to allow regions to direct funding in line with their Local Industrial Strategies.

www.policyconnect.org.uk/apmg/research/level-industry https://www.policyconnect.org.uk/apmg/sites/site_apmg/files/report/2823/fieldreportdownload/levelupindustry.pdf
";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:36:"http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/";a:1:{s:10:"commentRss";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:123:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/call-for-national-productivity-targets-to-level-up-manufacturing/feed/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}s:38:"http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/";a:1:{s:8:"comments";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:1:"0";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}}}}i:9;a:6:{s:4:"data";s:57:" ";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";s:5:"child";a:3:{s:0:"";a:6:{s:5:"title";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:61:"Europe sets out strategy for data and artificial intelligence";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"link";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:115:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/2020/03/11/europe-sets-out-strategy-for-data-and-artificial-intelligence/";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:7:"pubDate";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:31:"Wed, 11 Mar 2020 11:44:32 +0000";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:8:"category";a:4:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"News";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:1;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:2:"AI";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:2;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:4:"data";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}i:3;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:2:"EU";s:7:"attribs";a:0:{}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:4:"guid";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:49:"https://www.maintenanceandengineering.com/?p=4312";s:7:"attribs";a:1:{s:0:"";a:1:{s:11:"isPermaLink";s:5:"false";}}s:8:"xml_base";s:0:"";s:17:"xml_base_explicit";b:0;s:8:"xml_lang";s:0:"";}}s:11:"description";a:1:{i:0;a:5:{s:4:"data";s:395:"Proposals to promote the development of โtrustworthyโ artificial intelligence in Europe through increasing investment, streamlining research and fostering collaboration have been set out by the European Commission in a new White Paper. In partnership with the private and the public sector, the aim is โto create the right incentives to accelerate deployment of AI, including by smaller and medium-sized enterprisesโ.

It proposes a โhuman-centric approachโ so that AI systems are developed and used in a way that respects EU law and fundamental rights, with a regulatory approached based on an assessment of risk. High-risk AI systems would be certified, tested and controlled in an analogous way to cars, cosmetics, and toys. For low risk systems there would be a system of voluntary labelling.

An application would be considered high-risk if it was used in a specifically listed sector such as transport, healthcare, or policing, and in addition was used in such a way that risks of injury, death or damage, or legal implications could arise.

The data strategy aims to make the EU โa role model and a leader for a society empowered by dataโ. For this, it aims at setting up a European data space or โsingle marketโ for data, to unlock unused data and allow it to flow freely across sectors for the benefit of businesses, researchers and public administrations. The data should be available to all, whether public or private, start-up or giant, the strategy says.

To achieve this, the commission will first propose to establish a regulatory framework for data governance, access and re-use, creating incentives for data sharing and establishing clear rules on data access and use, while upholding rights such as personal data protection.

It will support โthe development of the technological systems and the next generation of infrastructureโ to allow the opportunities of the data economy to be grasped.

Finally, it will launch sectoral specific actions in sectors such as industrial manufacturing, the green deal, mobility or health.

EU commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, said: โOur society is generating a huge wave of industrial and public data, which will transform the way we produce, consume and live. I want European businesses and our many SMEs to access this data and create value for Europeans โ including by developing artificial intelligence applications.โ

The commission will present later this year a Digital Services Act and a European Democracy Action Plan.

Consultation on the White Paper on Artificial Intelligence is open until 31 May.
