EPFO Eases Burden: Relief for EPF Members from Joint Declaration Form Submission

11 Mar, 2024

Great news awaits certain Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account holders as the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has recently released a circular granting relief to specific EPF account holders from the obligation of submitting a joint declaration form. This form, typically submitted jointly by employers and employees, is mandatory for contributing to the EPF account when the basic salary exceeds the prevailing statutory wage ceiling of Rs 15,000 per month.

Nevertheless, it's important to note that the circular explicitly mentions that the exemption from submitting the joint declaration form does not extend to individuals who have opted for the increased pension under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS). Therefore, those who have applied for the enhanced pension are still required to submit the form as a mandatory procedure.

According to a circular from the EPFO, relief from submitting the joint application form is extended to EPF members who have ceased employment or passed away, specifically until October 31, 2023. This exemption applies to individuals who have contributed more than the statutory limit. These EPF members are not mandated to submit the joint declaration form.
